Indications
Gastimax® MED chewable tablets are indicated for the symptomatic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux, including:
Heartburn
Acid regurgitation
Indigestion
Cough
Inflammation of the pharynx and larynx (related to reflux)
These symptoms may occur after meals (e.g., when consuming fatty or spicy foods), during pregnancy, or in patients with reflux esophagitis symptoms (e.g., difficulty and/or painful swallowing, mouth sores, vomiting).
How it works
Gastimax® MED chewable tablets combine the effects of three main ingredients—sodium alginate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, and calcium carbonate—with a physical mechanism of action that does not depend on absorption into the systemic circulation:
Sodium alginate forms a protective layer on the gastric mucosa and over gastric contents in the stomach's acidic environment.
Sodium hydrogen carbonate and calcium carbonate react with stomach acid (hydrochloric acid), releasing carbon dioxide, which mobilizes the sodium alginate gel layer to the surface of the stomach contents.
This creates a protective gel layer, preventing gastric reflux into the esophagus.
In severe cases, the gel itself may reflux into the esophagus instead of stomach contents, exerting a soothing effect.
Additionally, sodium hydrogen carbonate and calcium carbonate neutralize excess stomach acid.
How to use
Adults, elderly, and children over 12 years: 2–4 chewable tablets after meals and at bedtime (up to four times per day).
Children under 12 years: Should only be taken on medical advice.
